THE Rabbitohs were left licking their wounds yesterday after being outgunned by a smaller Roosters pack - but Chooks enforcer Jason Ryles expects the much- hyped Souths big men to reach their potential as the game's fiercest pack once they have a few games behind them.

The 2009 wooden spooners were all over the Rabbitohs in Sunday's 36-10 win but Ryles said you couldn't expect so many big names to fire together immediately.

Souths stars Dave Taylor and Englishman Sam Burgess couldn't lift Souths to their pre-game hype despite making more than 250m and 48 tackles between them.

Taylor declared last week that Souths were fielding the best pack in the competition, but they found out against their arch-rivals that there's plenty of work to be done.

Ryles warned that having so many dominant players all wanting the ball will continue to create teething problems.

"They'll take a bit of time to jell obviously, because there's so many dominant players in the team," Ryles said.
