EXCLUSIVE: SOUTH Sydney fullback Rhys Wesser says his body is up to the rigors of another season - but if he does play on it won’t be with the Rabbitohs.

Speaking exclusively with sportsnewsfirst.com.au about his future, the veteran fullback says he is yet to make a decision whether he will retire at the end of the year.

However it appears Super League is firming as a likely option should the right deal in the NRL go begging after Wesser confirmed he will part ways with the Rabbitohs at the end of the year.

“One thing is I know I won’t be here next year,” Wesser revealed.

“Elsewhere could be an option, I haven’t ruled it out, I could go around again.”

“The bodies good other than certain limbs.

“The head is fresh which is the main thing and I’m just looking to finish this season off.”

Asked whether he will call time at the end of the year, Wesser said he “hasn’t put a date on it” and will see how he feels at the end of the year.

“It does (cross your mind) but it’s something I like to leave way at the end of the year until I know what’s going to be happening,” he said.

“There’s still seven games left, I just want to see them out and take it from there.”

The former Maroons custodian has played 13 games for the Bunnies this season in what is his third year with South Sydney since debuting for Penrith in 1998 where he won a premiership in 2003.

The 32-year-old missed the Bunnies golden point victory over the Roosters after stirring an old knee cartilage injury in his left knee against Manly in the week prior.

Wesser expects to be back to face the New Zealand Warriors on Sunday afternoon.

“I’m pretty confident I’ll be right to play if they’ll have me after this win,” he said chuckling.
