 What is the Burrow?

The Burrow is a guild of fanatical supporters of the South Sydney District Rugby League Football Club. We are passionate about supporting our team.. We stand and sing to the delight of those around us and to the Souths fans and opponent fans (also displeasure hehe) of the various away venues. There's no venue, from the top at Townsville QLD all the way to Auckland, NZ and Melbourne, Vic that The Burrow won't give our vocal chords a good lashing at and our lungs a good trashing. We will travel far and wide.

Do you have to Stand and Sing?

We would prefer if you did stand while singing but it's not like we will force you to. It's important that you feel comfortable and happy to be a part of The Burrow. Participating in the chanting and singing is what The Burrow is about. There are other things you can do on game day, like wave our huge flags and make noise in other ways.

Do I need to learn the songs before I become a member?

It's not necessary. You'll learn all the songs easily enough. Most of the songs get a good run during the course of the season and we can organise to have a song book for you at the game if you like.

Is it OK for the kids to come along?

Yeah! We welcome kids. They love singing songs and aren't shy like some adults are. Kids can help with waving flags.

Be warned though because quite a bit of swearing goes with the territory at all games and grounds, but we'll assume you already know this. It will be hard to avoid swearing anywhere around the ground. The Burrow are no worse than the norm. In fact, because of the amount of chanting we do, you could argue there's less swearing in The Burrow.

What's the $10 membership fee for I thought it was free?

It is free to join The Burrow. Just turn up in isle 133 at Telstra Stadium or where ever you see our flags at away games and join in the fun. However, if you wish to get more involved with The Burrow, participate in voting and take advantage of the many benefits we ask you to become a member

How much more can I get involved?

That's entirely up to you. We can always do with help organising Banner nights, sourcing resources like paint and brushes for free, organising functions, new songs and all manner of things that go on behind the scenes.

Do you start fights?

No! Our songs tend to get the opposition supporters knickers in a knot on some occasions. Most times when the final whistle blows everyone shakes hands and have a laugh. Sometimes opposition supporters meet up at the pub for more songs and a few beers. If violence does erupt, as a last resort, we reserve the right to defend ourselves and friends. We avoid violence at all cost and it's not what The Burrow is about. Overall, The Burrow is appreciated for the atmosphere we bring to the games.

Are you all drunken yobbo's?

On the contrary! We have quite a few members that don't drink alcohol at all. Many of us like to have a few beers at the game but very rarely, if at all, will you see us falling about blind drunk. We have a few families that are members too who I'm sure wouldn't enjoy being with The Burrow if we carried on like yobbo's.

Where ever we have been from 2002 - 2007, and Burrow members go to all grounds, we've been remarked upon on our warm and friendly behavior. The guy who runs the Orange Grove Hotel, for example, even rang up a local radio station to compliment The Burrow and even went as far to call us "The salt of the Earth". Howzat?!

Generally, because we are wearing our Club colours, it's important that we conduct ourselves well in order to make The Burrow grow and help the club maintain a good image. Don't get me wrong though, most of us do like to have a beer.
