GREG Inglis is preparing for something special, according to South Sydney captain Michael Crocker in what is a must-win rivalry round match for the Ron Coote Cup on Saturday evening. Inglis is almost back to his brilliant best following the third Origin game last Wednesday which he backed up with a lethal performance against the Sea Eagles despite the loss on Sunday. “I think the more he plays with us the better he’s going to be,” Crocker said. “I think he’ll start working some combinations with John (Sutton). “It’s a pretty lethal left side combination. "I think he's just going to get better and better.” Roosters captain Braith Anasta is all too aware of what damage the Test centre can create. “Something that we’ve got to stay on top of is the way that 'GI' plays,” Anasta said. “If they keep giving him early ball like they did on the weekend then (we have our work cut out for us). “He’s a great player and he steps up for big games. “It’s a pretty crucial game for both teams so I think he’ll probably be at his best this week." Anasta said it will be a big task for Shaun Kenny-Dowall to contain Inglis. “You’ve got to limit his time with the ball and his space,” the Roosters skipper said. “The less opportunity he has, the less dangerous he will be so it’s a big job for that right hand side.” On the other side of the field will be Todd Carney, who is starting to find the form of 2010 in which he won the Dally M Medal for player of the year. The play maker scored two tries in the 34-26 victory on Sunday and kicked five goals from seven attempts. With his performances i the remaining weeks vital to any hope of the Roosters finishing the year on a high will hinge on the five-eighths performance. “Toddy’s so important to us,” Anasta said “Toddy’s form on the weekend probably shows where we’re at this week. “A lot of the club feeds off him and his performances and how he’s feeling. “It’s good signs.” Crocker said the most important thing for Souths to do is limit their forwards metres so that Carney, Mitchell Pearce and Anasta can’t play off the back of momentum. “You have to worry about their big men going forward,” the Rabbitohs skipper said. “Then you’ve got to worry about the halves and Carney." However containing him is easier said than done. “If everyone does their job in defence, he shouldn’t get through the line,” Crocker said.
