Souths need a victory to keep up with NRL leaders, but the Cowboys will be looking for a reverse in fortunes on the field.

Two of the best attacking combinations in the NRL this season will go head-to-head on Monday night when the Rabbitohs clash with the Cowboys at ANZ Stadium.

Souths’ right-side attack is ranked number one in the NRL this season while the Cowboys’ left-side attack is second only to the Dragons’ potent left-side partnership of Matt Cooper and Brett Morris.

Englishman Sam Burgess and five-eighth John Sutton have created many opportunities for the Rabbitohs’ prolific right centre Beau Champion and winger Nathan Merritt, who have cashed in with 12 and nine tries respectively.

Opposite them on Monday night, Cowboys centre Willie Tonga has thrived on the service of halfback Johnathan Thurston and creative back-rower Scott Bolton to score eight tries for the season. Winger Michael Bani, who has missed a handful of games through injury, has claimed four.

The Rabbitohs’ attack sizzled against Penrith last Sunday but consistency has been a problem for the Red and Greens since the early weeks of their campaign. They have not won back-to-back games since round five.

The Cowboys, meanwhile, are simply desperate for a win of any description. Their frustration was palpable at fulltime last Saturday night after they bombed countless opportunities to defeat the Sea Eagles.

Luxbet have the Rabbitohs as the favourites to win at 1.42A$, while the Cowboys can be backed at 2.85.

Best hopes for first tryscorer include Beau Champion (11.00), Nathan Merritt (9.00) and Rhys Wesser (15.00) for the Rabbitohs or Willie Tonga (10.00), Ashley Graham (13.00) or Matt Bowen (14.00) for the Cowboys.

Recommendations
Cowboys to win - 2.85
Matt Bowen (Cowboys) - First tryscorer - 14.00
