NRL All Stars Voting Open Now

Rabbitohs Members and supporters can now vote on the NRL All Stars team and must choose between David Taylor, Issac Luke, Fetuli Talanoa and Colin Best as to who will represent the Club in the 2010 NRL All Stars match in February.

The NRL All Stars will take on the Indigenous All Stars at Skilled Park on the Gold Coast in the inaugural All Stars match on Saturday 13 February, 2010.

Rabbitohs’ outside back Nathan Merritt has already been selected for the Indigenous All Stars team.

You can cast your votes now at www.nrl.com/allstars to determine which players will represent the NRL All Stars against the Indigenous All Stars.

Already the star studded make-up of the list underlines the near impossible task that lies ahead for fans in choosing just one player from each club to join internationals Darren Lockyer, Cameron Smith, Benji Marshall and Adam Blair in the twenty-man All Stars squad.

Rabbitohs players David Taylor, Issac Luke, Fetuli Talanoa and Colin Best have been chosen by NRL fans as the Club’s shortlisted players, and only one of these players can represent South Sydney in the game.

NRL All Stars Coach Wayne Bennett has divided the 64 player shortlisted during the first stage of voting into position, and in a first for the coach he now hands over the reins to the selectors, the fans.

The coach has divided the backs into three groups:

Fullback - Specialist role
Outside Back – Includes centres and wings
Inside Back – A player who can play five-eighth or halfback

Forwards are also divided into three categories:

Tight Forwards – A player who plays front-row and also second-row
Edge Forwards – A second-rower or lock that can play on both the right and left side edge of a team’s attack and defence.
Hooker – Specialist role

The coach wants at least three tight forwards in the starting line-up

The Coach’s remaining notes are:

Players marked as utility players have been designated on the basis of their ability to cover multiple positions.

The seven man bench will require:

- two Tight Forwards
- one Edge Forward
- one Inside Back
- one Outside Back
- two Utilities

The first player selected in the NRL All Stars team public vote will be the representative who receives the highest overall number votes for a single position. His selection will mean that no other player from that representative’s club will be eligible to make the side. The next player selected will have recorded the second highest number of overall votes for a single position … and so on.

If a player is unable to play due to injury, he will be replaced by someone from the bench.

The bench spot will then be filled by another player from the injured player’s club – the new player having recorded the second highest number of votes from that club, either as a forward, back or utility, depending on the position needed for the bench.

Voting to decide the final team to take of the Indigenous All Stars at Skilled Park Stadium on Saturday 13 February, 2010 will close at midnight (AEDT) on Friday 29 January, 2010.
