South Sydney's fight for survival in the NRL after being kicked out was a typical David beats Goliath tale. Now the play Run Rabbit Run! is to be added to the HSC drama curriculum in NSW. The author, Alana Valentine, is over the moon. The play opened many moons ago in 2004, but will return as required reading for HSC drama students from next year until the end of 2012. ''It's beaut news,'' Valentine said. ''A whole new generation of people can learn how to kick Rupert Murdoch up the arse.'' Valentine grew up in Redfern, and has been a Souths supporter all her life. The play taps into the groundswell of support for Souths during their toughest period, as everyone from high-profile businessmen to the battlers got behind the Rabbitohs. Another of Valentine's plays, Parramatta Girls, is also going on the HSC drama list. No, it's not a story about the Eels' cheer squad.
