For all those adventurous South Sydney supporters who would like the chance to support the red and green cause, Mikey Robins is holding a march for the Rabbitohs this Friday, the 4th of September at 8am, heading from the Olympic Hotel, (308 Moore Park Rd, Paddington) then down Moore Park Rd into Driver Ave and finishing outside the Sydney Football Stadium, where a short commemoration ceremony will take place.
The march will be lead by fanatical bunnies fan, Mikey Robins and a huge paper mache bunny (currently being constructed by Pine St Creative Arts Centre in Chippendale). St Mary’s Brass Band is also on board, supplying the musicians for the march. The march has been a work in progress since the start of the year, when after round 1 and the flogging that Souths inflicted on the Roosters ( 52 points to 12, remember?), Mikey declared that Souths were going to make the Grand Final this year, and to celebrate he was going to lead a marching band to the SFS. Unfortunately, we didn’t quite make the big end of season games but true to his word, Mikey will be undertaking this epic journey, hopefully with your participation.
Each week Mikey has been adding or removing an instrument from the band based on whether Souths have a win or loss. So far there are 12 instruments on board (1 for each win, 10 wins; plus a bass drum with just one stick for the draw. (and Tony offered Mikey a set of bagpipes after a string of losses)
Even though Souths aren’t in the finals, Mikey is now marching for pride and for the red & green jersey. He’s hoping to build an army of Souths supporters who would like to join him and many other fanatical supporters for the march to show that the South Sydney spirit is alive and well, regardless of our finish to the 2009 season. (At least we finished in front of the Roosters!!!)
It would be fantastic to see a huge contingent of Bunnies fans turn out on the day and show the rest of the footballing fraternity that the Rabbitohs are ‘Numero Uno’ when it comes to spirit, strength and unity. So come on Souths fans, if you can make it for the 8.00 am start, what have you got to lose, except a memorable experience?
The march is being scheduled in conjunction with vega953fm’s Brekky Show, with the show’s compere’s Tony, Bec and of course Mikey Robbins figuring prominently on the Sydney airwaves throughout the event on Friday morning.
So come on Rabbitohs fans, Mikey would like the pleasure of your company as he teases and tantalises the enemy from Bondi as only he can. We hope that you will be joining us but if you can’t, then tune into vega953fm for live updates and crosses to Mikey and the marching crew during the breakfast show.
