South Sydney utility Craig Wing told Grandstand the Rabbitohs's patience under pressure was instrumental in their come-from-behind 22-12 win over Newcastle in Gosford on Sunday afternoon.

Wing put an injury-marred 2008 behind him, as he made his first appearance this season off the interchange bench and he played a key role in launching the Rabbitohs's fight-back in the second half, after the Knights had led 8-0 at the break.

The former New South Wales representative crossed for two tries as the Rabbitohs poured on 22 unanswered points in the second term, the Knights unable to reply until the 77th minute when Junior Sau crossed for a consolation four-pointer.

Wing says the Rabbitohs could have cost themselves any chance of victory had they panicked when behind the Knights on the scoreboard.

"I think the early try, a couple of tries, got us a bit frazzled," he said.

"But once we sort of composed ourselves and just tried to work on our game plan, usually as things happen it just starts to fall into place."
