Canterbury is still searching for its first win of the Toyota Cup season after going down 44-6 to South Sydney at ANZ Stadium on Monday night.

The Bulldogs trailed 12-0 at half-time and conceded two quick tries after the break to leave themselves too big a task.

The Rabbitohs took control at the back-end of the game to run out convincing winners.

Souths centre Junior Vaivai did most of the damage, touching down four times in the second half.

The loss leaves the Dogs anchored to the bottom of the table with the Warriors after four rounds.

South Sydney took just four minutes to post first points, Nathan Peats crossing for his second try in as many weeks after running off a short ball.

Adam Reynolds landed the conversion for a 6-0 lead.

The Rabbitohs were in again on 15 minutes, second-rower Jake Shearer crashing over from close range to extend the home side's lead.

Reynolds was on target again for a 12-0 advantage.

Two tries to Vaivai inside six minutes early in the second half pushed the Bunnies further ahead and at 22-0 it looked a long way back for the Bulldogs.

Half-back Josh Kent gave brief hope of a revival when he touched down in the 55th minute, Aidan Sezer's conversion narrowing the gap to 16 points.

But it was all South Sydney from that point on.

The Rabbitohs piled on a further 22 points to complete a comprehensive victory.

Canterbury coach Andrew Patmore will be disappointed with the way his side capitulated late in the contest.
