More bad news for the Warriors with inspirational captain Steve Price ruled out of this weekend's clash with the Rabbitohs.

The club revealed on Wednesday that Price will miss the game at Mt Smart Stadium with a haematoma to his throat.

He picked up the injury in a tackle against Manly nearly two weeks ago.

The talismanic prop saw a specialist on Wednesday morning and will go in for a second examination next week after the swelling has gone down.

It's hoped he will be fit for the game against the Knights on April 12.

In his absence Micheal Luck will take over the captaincy while Russell Packer comes off the interchange bench to take a starting spot.

Coach Ivan Cleary has brought in new signing Lewis Brown and 2008 Junior Warriors captain Daniel O'Regan onto a five-man bench.

Price adds to an alarmingly growing list of injuries just days after brother in law Brent Tate was ruled out for the season with an ACL tear in his right knee.

Also sidelined are winger Manu Vatuvei (knee), Lance Hohaia (knee), Ben Matulino (ankle), Mataupu Poching (ankle), Leeson Ah Mau (shoulder) and Evarn Tuimavave (neck).

"It's a big dent in our resources but there's nothing we can do about that except back other players to step in and do the job, which is exactly what we're doing," said Cleary.

"While we've lost two of our most experienced players this week in Brent and Steve, we have boys in our squad who are busting themselves for an opportunity and now they have it."

At team training on Tuesday second rower Simon Mannering also spoke of how big the loss of star centre Tate is to the team.

"Massive. He brings a lot of experience and he's a really hard worker out on the field," Mannering told tvnz.co.nz.

"I've never had an injury like that before but some of the boys have. It's a pretty tough one with a lot of rehab and it's a long road until your playing fitness comes back. I'm sure if anyone's gonna come back from an injury like that it's Tatey.

"We've had a pretty poor start to the year injury wise. It's not nice to be losing quality players at the start of the year."
