SOUTH Sydney have confirmed they will play one home game in Perth next year - but they may have competition in their bid to reclaim the west for rugby league.

St George Illawarra - at the urging of quarter-owner WIN TV, which has extensive interests in WA - have invited the Sydney Roosters to play them in a pre-season match at Members Equity Stadium.

The Rabbitohs announced yesterday that their home game against Newcastle in 2009 would be played at Central Coast Stadium and the Melbourne match would be in Perth.

It'll be the first premiership game there since 2005 and the Perth Reds - who are in the Jim Beam Cup - hope it will help their bid for a return to the NRL.

Souths members will be offered 14 games - including the ANZ Stadium "away" matches against he Bulldogs and Parramatta.

Roosters chief executive Brian Canavan said: "The Dragons have made an attractive proposal that we play them in Perth in the pre-season. We are considering it."
