The Rabbitohs have suffered a major blow with new recruit Craig Wing ruled out of play for up to six weeks after a dislocated shoulder.

Wing had played for only several minutes when in the eighth minute he suffered the injury, and was taken from the field.

With the Rabbitohs taking on the Sydney Roosters - his former team - Wing suffered the injury when Sydney player Riley Brown came in against Wing in a three-man tackle.

The Rabbitohs, although not accusing the Roosters of foul play, said that the move could have been intentional.

"It's something that is in the game. We talk about grapple tackle and cleaning it up... If we want to clean the game up - they held him up so someone could whack him in the back," coach Jason Taylor said.

"If you look at the eyes of the player who was holding up Wingy, he was looking at the other guy with his eyes alight saying 'there it is, whack him'."

Craig Wing said he was furious his return to the Rabbitohs had lasted only eight minutes.

"I just really wanted to start off on the right foot but these things happen and you just have to deal with it," he said.

"Straight away I knew it was dislocated because I heard a pop and couldn't get my hand back to my side."
